It’s been a while. I’ve been spending the summer fulfilling one of my resolutions; to catch more exhibitions in London before they end. I feel truly blessed to live in a city that attracts such amazing shows, from some of the most renowned artists of our time. My photos do not do justice to the artistry, originality, and expressive ideas of the exhibitions that I’ve visited, but they are hopefully a taste of the creativity and breadth of visual culture that I’ve witnessed this year.
Images are from: Project Black Planet, the art and culture of panafrica, The Music is Black; a sublime, sensory, interactive journey through the history of Black British music, Frida: The Making of an Icon; the Tate Modern’s retrospective of the great Mexican artist’s work as well as the work of artists who were inspired and influenced by her, and Julio Le Parc’s playfully interactive show. There’s also Anish Kapoor’s vibrant, visceral sculptures at The Hayward gallery, Japanese Photographers, from 1950s to Now at The Photographer’s Gallery and Dutch artist M.C. Esher’s endlessly surreal optical illusions at Somerset House.
